Corrupt financier and Obama pal Tony Rezko implicated in Blagojevich trial, according to testimony by prosecution witness Robert Williams saying Tony Rezko funneled money to then-Governor Rod Blagojevich's wife, Patti Blagojevich.
According to testimony given in the Rod Blagojevich corruption trial, prosecution witness Robert Williams testified as late as 2004 that Barack Obama’s pal Tony Rezko was funneling money to then-Governor Rod Blagojevich's wife, Patti Blagojevich. Rezko was a close confidante of then-state Senator Barack Obama and Rezko reportedly played a role in real estate deals which benefited Obama. Williams, the former chief financial officer of Rezko's Rezmar company, testified Patti Blagojevich received payment for consulting. One check issued to Mrs. Blagojevich's company, River Realty, in January of 2004 totaled $40,000. Williams said he acted as an intermediary involving payments to Mrs. Blagojevich and her real estate firm. When Prosecutor Carrie Hamilton asked Williams whether he was aware of Mrs. Blagojevich doing any work for Rezko's firm--as a consultant or in any other capacity--Williams replied "no". Williams testified under a grant of immunity, but his testimony indicated there was an ongoing link between Rezko, the Blagojevich's and possibly Barack Obama, though Williams did not mention Obama's name during recent court proceedings.
