“Not in my back yard!” That familiar chant is resounding throughout the New York area as concerned Americans voice their opposition to the construction of new Islamic centers in three different boroughs. Residents of Brooklyn and Staten Island are voicing their concerns over new mosques planned by the Muslim American Society, a group widely linked to a jihadist organization known at the Muslim Brotherhood. Perhaps the most controversial of the new mosques on the drawing board is proposed by the Cordoba Initiative and planned for construction just two blocks away from the site of the destroyed World Trade Center buildings. Recent polls indicate that 52 percent of New York City voters reject the Ground Zero Mosque and only 31 percent support it.
