NAT’L DAY OF PRAYER ruled unconstitutional- Category:Christian_Conservative_News NAT’L DAY OF PRAYER ruled unconstitutional
The Alliance Defense Fund has joined other organizations like the Liberty Institute to support efforts to appeal a federal judge's ruling that the observance of the National Day of Prayer was unconstitutional.
On April 15th, U-S District Judge Barbara Crabb, for the Western District of Wisconsin, issued an opinion striking down the National Day of Prayer statute.
The Freedom from Religion Foundation sued the National Day of Prayer task force that was headed by Shirley Dobson, the wife of Dr. James Dobson, who at the time was the head of Focus on the Family.
Millions of Americans and thousands of local leaders have traditionally prayed for the nation and our leaders during the annual event, which was codified by Congress in 1952.
Joel Oster, the Senior Legal Counsel of the Alliance Defense Fund declared, "Public officials should be able to participate in public prayer activities just as America's founders did and the judge's ruling should not prevent America's cities from lawfully observing the National Day of Prayer."
Joe Oster says they are confident that the 7th Circuit will uphold the federal statute setting a day for the National Day of Prayer."
